Heat Pumps and Air Conditioning units do more than cooling and or heating. These units require more than just a filter change. Even though that is a good start if you use the right filters. The cheap filters that don’t have much filter media actually trap the micro dust particles in the air and can hurt your unit. A pleated filter such as the 3M filters which you can buy at any hardware store is the most practical. Duct particles will go through cheaper filters causing a buildup of dust and eventually slime inside your Air Conditioning coils and drains. This causes a problem called dirty socks syndrome, (a disturbing smell coming from all vents), also causing drain traps to clog and flow back into your secondary drain pan and the entire air handling unit.
